When they learn of Bosso’s act to make a huge diamond disappear, the group of young magical misfits realize what Bosso is going to switch the real diamond with a fake and then high-tail it out of there, and now the young magicians must do the right thing and stop him. When this group of four realizes that a quartet from Bosso’s circus is pick-pocketing, Carter realizes that Bosso is no better than his uncle. He also meets Leila’s friend, a magic goer herself who is physically confined to a wheelchair, but not from using magic, Ridley, and yet another young magician who likes to play music, Theo. At the circus, Carter runs into a man named Dante Vernon, who he later seeks out at his magic shop where he meets Leila, a young aspiring magician who can free herself of various bindings. Bosso offers Carter a position there, but Carter is uneasy about the people under Bosso’s jurisdiction. Carter loves magic, but when he realizes that what he is doing feels like the wrong thing to do, he runs away from his uncle’s tyranny of the trade.Ĭarter hops a freight train and finds himself face-to-face with B.B. What makes his uncle so terrible? He has Carter do magic tricks on the street while he stealthily swindles the viewers of their valuables. Young street magician Carter is left with a terrible uncle when his parents die. Neil Patrick Harris, renown actor, has gifted the world with his first middle-grade novel, also the first in a series of four books (I believe): The Magic Misfits.
